Eyelash Extensions Aftercare: How You Should Do It

Whether you’ve got short lashes and would like to add a little extra length to make them flutter or have sparse areas that you want to fill in, eyelash extensions are the perfect solution! These gorgeous additions to your lash line can instantly make you look like a natural beauty without having to go through the effort of curling your lashes and putting on layers of mascara every day.

However, eyelash extensions take time and effort to apply properly and are often seen as an investment. Here’s how you can take care of your permanent makeup lashes:

Why you need to commit to aftercare

Just like any other investment, lash extensions require a significant amount of maintenance to last for a long time. Proper aftercare can help you:

  • Prevent eye infections
  • Keep your new lashes clean
  • Keep your lashes looking nice for longer
  • Save money since you won’t need to replace them often

Proper aftercare

There are many things that you need to do to maintain your lashes.

Keep them dry for 2 days after the application process

Don’t take a shower or get water near your eyes while washing your face within the first 48 hours of getting your new lashes. Water can break the glue down and make the bond more brittle, causing the lashes to fall out.

Wash them regularly after that

Once the first 48 hours are over, the glue will have settled down and you can start washing your eyes like normal. Clean your extensions every 2-3 days to remove any buildup of residue and prevent eye infections.

You can clean them by:

  • Brushing them with a clean mascara spoolie
  • Washing them with distilled water or a special cleanser for lash extensions
  • Letting your eyes get wet in the shower

Brush them every day

You need your lashes to stay free from any clumps or tangles so that they don’t fall out. Use a dry spoolie to brush through your lashes while gently supporting them with your fingers.

Be careful with certain products

Don’t use any products that contain oils near your extensions. Oils can break the glue down and make your extensions fall out much faster than they should. Make sure that you check the ingredients in your products before putting them on or near your eyes, especially your makeup remover and eye creams.

How often should you get them done?

High-quality eyelash extensions can last up to 6-8 weeks with proper care and maintenance. It’s okay to get them taken out earlier with the help of a professional, but they usually tend to fall out by themselves.
